FAQs

  • Yes, electrolysis is the only method of hair removal the FDA has deemed “permanent”. It works by destroying the hair follicle at the papilla, preventing it from producing hair again. It gets to the root of the problem for good.

Multiple sessions are required because hair grows in cycles, and not all hairs are actively growing at the same time. Once all the targeted follicles have been treated, the results are permanent.

Consistency with appointments and following aftercare instructions are key to achieving the best results. If you have specific concerns, we can discuss your treatment plan during a consultation.

  • Electrolysis is suitable for anyone seeking permanent hair removal, regardless of skin tone, hair type, or gender. It’s especially beneficial for:

    • People with light or gray hair: Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis works on all hair colors.

    • People with darker skin tones: Electrolysis is safe for all skin tones because it doesn’t rely on pigmentation to target hair.

    • Individuals with hormonal hair growth: Electrolysis is effective for areas like the face, chest, or back, where hair growth may be due to hormonal changes.

    • Transgender individuals: Electrolysis is often used as part of gender-affirming care to achieve smooth, hair-free skin.

    • Anyone frustrated with temporary methods: For those tired of waxing, shaving, or tweezing, electrolysis offers a permanent solution.

If you have specific concerns or questions about whether electrolysis is right for you, schedule a consultation to discuss your unique needs.

  • Yes! Electrolysis is safe and effective for people of all skin tones, including people of color. Unlike laser hair removal, which relies on pigment and can sometimes cause discoloration in darker skin, electrolysis targets the hair follicle directly without relying on pigmentation. Galvanic electrolysis is a gentle option that works well for individuals prone to hyperpigmentation.

  • During electrolysis, you may feel a mild sensation as the hair follicle is treated. Most clients describe it as a quick pinprick or a slight warming sensation. Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but most find the procedure manageable.

    For added comfort:

    • We can adjust the intensity of the treatment to suit your tolerance.

    • You can apply numbing creams for more sensitive areas 30 minutes prior to being treated (application be done prior to arrival at our studio for liability reasons).

While some areas of the body are naturally more sensitive, the discomfort is typically short-lived and diminishes quickly after treatment. Clients often say the results are well worth the minor discomfort.

  • The number of treatments needed varies depending on several factors, including:

    • Hair growth cycle: Hair grows in cycles, and electrolysis can only target hairs in the active growth phase. Multiple sessions are required to treat all hairs in the area.

    • Treatment area: Larger areas or areas with denser hair may require more sessions.

    • Hair type: Coarse, thick hair might take longer to treat than finer hair.

    • Individual factors: Hormones, genetics, and overall hair growth patterns can influence how many sessions you’ll need.

On average, treatments are scheduled over several months to more than a year. Consistency is crucial, with sessions gradually becoming less frequent and shorter as hair growth diminishes.

  • Following proper before and after care is essential to ensure effective treatment and to minimize skin irritation.

    Before Treatment:

    • Do not tweeze, wax, or remove hair from the root after embarking on electrolysis.

    • Shaving is okay between appointments but stop 3-5 days prior to treatment so hair is long enough to grab with tweezers.

    • Keep the area clean and free of lotions, makeup, or oils on the day of your appointment.

    After Treatment:

    • Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily.

    • Avoid sun exposure, tanning, or heat treatments (like saunas or hot tubs) for at least 48 hours.

    • Refrain from applying makeup, lotions, or harsh products to the area for 24-48 hours.

    • Apply a soothing product, such as aloe vera or witch hazel, as recommended by your electrologist.

Detailed care instructions tailored to your treatment area will be provided during your appointment.

  • After each electrolysis session, it’s normal to experience some temporary skin reactions, such as:

    • Redness: Mild redness in the treated area, which typically fades within a few hours.

    • Swelling: Slight swelling may occur, especially in sensitive areas, but it’s usually minimal.

    • Tiny scabs or bumps: These can form as part of the healing process and should not be picked; they will heal naturally.

These effects are temporary and a normal part of the treatment process. Proper aftercare, like applying soothing products (e.g., aloe vera or witch hazel), can help minimize irritation.

Most clients find that any visible signs of treatment are subtle and fade quickly, allowing them to go about their day without concern.
