What is Electrolysis?

  • Electrolysis is a form of hair removal first developed by Dr. Charles Michel in 1875. Originally created to treat ingrown eyelashes, electrolysis was found to be the only permanent method of hair removal. Over the last 140 years, this has not changed and electrolysis continues to be the only form of "permanent" hair removal according to the FDA.

  • This revolutionary technique works by inserting a fine probe into the hair follicle and uses electricity to destroy the follicle at the root. Electrolysis offers three distinct modalities to suit different skin and hair types. Galvanic electrolysis uses a direct electrical current to create a chemical reaction in the follicle, effectively killing the hair root. Thermolysis, or high-frequency electrolysis, uses heat generated by alternating current to destroy the follicle. Finally, the blend method combines both galvanic and thermolysis techniques for maximum effectiveness, making it a versatile choice for stubborn or coarse hair. This trio of approaches ensures that electrolysis can be tailored to each client’s unique needs, delivering safe, precise, and permanent results.

  • Galvanic electrolysis is particularly effective for those with coarse hair, redheads, and individuals with darker skin tones. This method uses a direct electrical current to create a chemical reaction within the hair follicle, effectively targeting and destroying thicker, more stubborn hairs. Its ability to penetrate deeply makes it ideal for removing hairs that are resistant to other forms of hair removal.

  • For clients with finer hair or lighter skin tones, Thermolysis (also known as high-frequency electrolysis) is often the preferred choice. This modality employs alternating current to generate heat, which swiftly destroys the hair follicle. Thermolysis is known for its speed and efficiency, making it suitable for treating larger areas or areas with lighter, less dense hair.

  • The Blend Method combines both galvanic and thermolysis techniques, offering a versatile solution for those with mixed hair types or areas that require a more comprehensive approach.
